“Only fools and horses work for a living.”

Only Fools and Horses is my personal best British sitcom I’ve had the pleasure of watching. It had captivated many viewers from its early days till the present – earning the legendary status in British sitcom till this day.

The show tells a story about the life of the Trotters’ family, which firstly had started off with Delboy (David Jason), his younger brother Rodney (Nicholas Lyndhurst) and Grandad (Lennard Pearce). After quite a few series later the show introduced new female characters; Raquel Turner and Cassandra Trotter into their wheelin’ and dealin’ lives.

Originally seven series were broadcasted on BBC One in UK from 1981 to 1991.

Both of the brothers live in the poor rural area of Peckham, South London with their elderly grandad (Lennard Pearce). Unfortunately their mother, Joan, had died when Rodney was very young, and their father had left them to fend on themselves. So the plot mainly evolves round Delboy with his brother trying to make a profit by illegally selling whatever merchandise he can get his hands on from dodgy contacts like: Monkey Harris and Sunglasses Ron. Part of the ongoing humor is that there’s always something wrong with their goods.

The reason why I personally think Only Fools and Horses is the best comedy sitcom of all time is, because of  a perfect cas

t at the time, having a line of ingenious characters like Trigger, Delboy, Rodney and Grandad to Boycie, Uncle Albert and Cassandra. The plot of the many hilariously funny episodes are well written, which my favourites are: The Unlucky Winner is…May The Force Be With You and Class of ’62, just to name a few. And I really love Delboy’s rhyming Cockney slang and his soppy misuse of French phrases.

All in all it’s a great show for all ages and I think it’s even well-suited to people that hardly understand any English, as the show is very adapted to characters’ expressions and often than not various big plots.
